On Tuesday the kids observed the chicks as they began to hatch out of their shells in the incubator.
On Thursday the chicks had been moved to their new home under a heat lamp and the kids loved watching them sleep, eat, cheep and frolic.
On Thursday the kids also got an opportunity to hold the chicks. The kids were thrilled to have a chance to hold the fuzzy babies and many chose to hold them a second and third time.
Amid all the chick excitement the kids continued to help us feed Pickles the fish and enjoyed watching the caterpillars.
The kids loved having the pirate ship in the texture table last week so we kept it in for an additional week of play.
We pulled out the watercolors this week and the kids loved creating pictures using this medium.
At creation station we had eggs as a base. The kids had a blast starting their creations with these.
One of our fine motor activities we had available this week was hopping bunnies. The kids loved helping these colorful bunnies fly through the air.
We had pirates on our flannel board this week.
On our building table we had blocks of wood and animals. The kids built houses, towers and dens for their animals.
We had plastic eggs and shimmery jewels in our water tub this week.
On our light table we had play foam, plastic eggs and sparkly foam eggs available for the kids to explore.
The kids continue to love to build with the big wooden blocks on the carpet. Here are a few photos of them at play in various areas of the room.
On Tuesday in celebration of our chicks, the kids made hand-print chicks. These turned out awesome and are on display in the classroom along with photos of the kids holding the chicks. Come check them out when you have a chance. It is cuteness overload!
Our second activity on Tuesday was making musical egg shakers out of plastic eggs and black beans. The kids filled their eggs with beans and decorated the eggs with Sharpies and colorful tape.
We used the eggs during circle time to accompany a song called "I Know a Chicken".
On Thursday while the kids waited for their turn to hold the chicks they played a fun game where a mother duck takes her baby ducklings to a party.
During circle time we learned about the life cycle of a butterfly.
The kids shared more of their houses.
And we taught the kids several great songs and finger plays about chickens.
Sunshine + swings = happiness!
This was a magical week at school. We had so much fun hatching chicks with your sweet kids. We have many more fun things planned as we head into our final full month of school.
See you Tuesday,
Meghan and Christine
