Butterflies and Growing in the OC - Teacher Christine

The kids were delighted to arrive on Monday to find that the butterflies were finally ready to be held! Each child got a turn to hold a butterfly in the tent. They all did a wonderful job being calm and gentle with these beautiful creatures.

We continued our self portrait project by painting faces on Monday and adding facial features on Wednesday. We encouraged the kids to look in a mirror so that they could match their hair and eye color to create their portrait. They also did a great job matching their painted face with the black line drawing that they did last Friday. These are so beautiful and are up in the classroom with a photograph of each child. Come take a peek!

The kids added to their memory boxes on Wednesday and reminisced about all of the fun they had this month watching the caterpillars turn into butterflies. Many of the kids took some time to look at all of the treasures in their memory boxes.

We had bugs and insect boxes in the texture table.

Insects invaded our water tub and the kids had fun sorting, dumping and pouring with buckets and pumps.

They never get tired of playing with play dough!

We noticed this week that some of the kids are starting to string letters together and ask what it spells. They are doing such a great job writing their names, too!

We added watercolors to creation station and will have these out next week as well.

They also had fun creating with unicorn, rainbow, and butterfly cut-outs!

Mrs. and Mr. Potato head visited the building table this week.

We had the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" on the flannel board. The kids loved re-telling this story!

Lots of friends spent time playing games at our fine motor table. They especially loved the snail race game and a banana split ice cream game. Many of the kids created patterns with the different colors of ice cream.

We read a few fun books during circle time, including Edwina, the Dinosaur Who Didn't Know She was Extinct. We also read a fun book about a ninja.

We started revisiting fun songs for our spring program!

The kids love to dance and play instruments.

We celebrated a special friend's birthday!

We loved hearing all about Panda's special adventures!

We continue to practice simple words and letter sounds as a group. They are getting so good at identifying letter sounds and often want to call out other words that start with the same letter.

Here's a look at your sweet kids playing and having fun outside.

Next week we are bringing back some of the kids' favorite things to play with around the room for the last two weeks of school.

See you all on Wednesday!
Christine and Meghan
