Small Friends Grocery is Open in the YC! - Teacher Christine

We left our space unit behind and introduced our community theme this week. The kids had a wonderful time at the grand opening of our classroom grocery store, painting with a variety of interesting objects, and learning new songs and games.

On Tuesday, the kids used cars and trucks as paint brushes and made some really fun art patterns! They also had a great time driving their cars all around the paper. Some kids also had fun using their hands to paint with!

The Small Friends Grocery store opened with a bang on Tuesday! It was as busy as Costco on a Sunday. Our little shoppers found all of their weekly groceries and formed lines as checkers worked quickly. The kids had so much fun shopping, checking out, bagging, and restocking. It was a great opportunity to work collaboratively. They practiced patience waiting in line or for a turn with a cart, and worked on putting all of the items back on the shelves for other friends to play with.

On Thursday, the kids painted with spaghetti! They chose between a variety of bright colors and our parent helper squirted the color into a bowl and topped it with a helping of spaghetti. Next the kids mixed it all together and used the spaghetti as a stamp on their paper. The kids loved to mix multiple colors and came up with some great combinations.

At creation station this week we had cars and lots of fruit cut outs for the children to decorate and use in their awesome creations.

The kids had a lot of fun playing with the new car and truck cookie cutters we put out at the play dough station.

We had boats, bears, and bubbles in our water tub this week.

Magnetic car and truck builders came to visit the building table this week. The kids had lots of fun making cool car creations.

At our fine motor table, we had fruits and veggies to cut, and the kids spent lots of time making fruit salad!

They also really enjoyed drilling bolts!

At our flannel board, we had people to play with and dress up in all different kinds of uniforms and clothing.

Mabel got lots of cuddles this week, as always.

Here's a look at your sweet kids playing around the room! This group is really getting into collaborative play. They are enjoying the new costumes we have put out and had a blast "driving" cars and trucks this week.

We received twenty-three chicken eggs to incubate on Tuesday! Each day at circle time we look at where the chicks are in their development. The kids are so curious and can't wait for the chicks to hatch! They should hatch around April 29th.

We read a book called Bear Feels Sick and another book called Who's Sick Today?. These books are so sweet and model how friends help to support each other. We also read a funny book about animals driving cars and enjoyed singing, dancing, and asking questions about the eggs we are incubating.

Cold and blustery weather has returned, but we are really enjoying recess. These kids love to play tag, chase, and hide and seek!

Next week Small Friends opens a pizza parlor!

Thank you for everything you do to make Small Friends such a wonderful community.

Warmly,
Christine and Meghan
