It's a Pizza Party in the YC! - Teacher Sheri

Painting with spaghetti and catapulting marshmallows....what?! These are just two of the activities we did in the Younger Class this week and we can't wait to tell you all about it.

On Tuesday, the kids were invited over to the activity table and given a bowl full of spaghetti noodles. They chose what "sauce" (colored paint) they wanted and got to work stirring and tossing the noodles together.

They observed color changes and worked their pincer grasp with tongs.

Then, they plopped their spaghetti onto paper and made cool noodle designs!

Speaking of Italian food, our loft was transformed into a mini pizza parlor, complete with menus and two different types of pizza play sets. The kids love to pretend they are making food for one another.

We all got an opportunity to make real pizzas on Thursday and had a blast making and eating them! The kids topped a round cracker with their choice of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni...yum.

At carpet time, we read some fun books about pizza and learned how to follow a recipe card and add the right number of toppings to the pizza. They continued to make pizzas on our flannel board.

We also learned the song, "On Top of Spaghetti" and were reminded to hold on to your meatball whenever you sneeze. ;)

Other kinds of food were found all around the room, including in the texture table where there were plastic fruit and vegetables. They could match up the pieces of fruits and veggies and put them together with velcro!

More fruits and veggies were in the water tub, along with ketchup and mustard squeeze bottles. They loved this produce washing station!

The kids experimented with a sweeter kind of food at the activity table. There, they learned how a catapult works and how to operate it....to launch marshmallows! Science and engineering are fun!

At the building table, we had large screws and nuts and different parts that could be put together. We observed some kids who enjoy building!

Other kiddos ventured over to the light table, where they could color pictures with sidewalk chalk.

Another highlight in the room was the electric keyboard, The kids loved just experimenting and plunking away at the keys, as well as following the color coded sheet music to play real songs!

Play dough, games, toys, and more kept the kids very busy.

More exciting news this week is that we have 24 eggs in our incubator!

The kids were very curious about the eggs and especially about how long it will be before we have the chicks.:) At carpet time, we read a non-fiction book about eggs and learned that it will be 21 days before the chicks will (hopefully) hatch. In the meantime, we have an egg model which shows a picture of what the chick looks like every day that it is forming inside the egg.

We sure had fun with your sweet children! Next week, we are looking forward to having our very own mini grocery store in the room!

Take care,

Sheri and Lisa
