Chilling in the deep blue sea with the OC -Teacher Meghan

We took a trip to the beach this week with our ocean theme! Beach balls and parachutes, puffer fish art, and ocean sensory bags were some of the highlights of the week.

On Monday we took advantage of the dry weather and took a parachute outside and filled it with beach balls. The kids worked together to make the balls bounce and fly.

Our other parent led activity on Monday was to make silly puffer fish using a sponge, white paint, yellow fins and crazy eyes and mouth. These funny little fish are hanging on our bulletin board outside the classroom. Come take a look!

On Wednesday we made jellyfish out of a paper sandwich bag. First the kids practiced their scissors skills by cutting the tentacles on the jellyfish using fancy scissors. Then they decorated their fish using dobbers, muffin cups for eyes and sparkly jewels. They stuffed the top of their bag with paper to create the jellyfish body. The end result is so cute.

Our other parent led activity on Wednesday was sorting sea shells into different categories.  The kids chose how they would like to sort their shells.  Some of the categories they came up with were  large and small and smoothy and spiny.

On Friday we took out green and purple colored sand and the kids worked on writing letters. This was great fine motor practice and the kids had a blast.

Our second activity on Friday was making ocean sensory bags. The kids filled a sandwich bag with shells, blue and green sequins, shiny pieces of "seaweed" and foam fish. Our parent added a little green or blue hair gel to give a fun squish to the bag.

Our classroom is brimming with living creatures right now. The kids have enjoyed watching the caterpillars grow this week and are so excited about our chicken eggs!

At our texture table this week we had a pirate ship, pirates and squishy fish. The kids had so much fun playing with these items.

In our water tub we had some awesome sea creatures and shimmery blue and white stones.

Our light table was a hot spot this week. We had kinetic sand, sand molds, seashells and brightly colored sea creatures. The kids played endlessly with these items.

Some amazing creations were made at the play dough table.

At creation station the kids loved stenciling and stamping using ocean themed items.

Fine motor activities such as the peg boards and the alpha -bots keep little hands busy.

We had some fun and unique shapes out at our building table this week.

The book nook is a popular spot to catch up on all our favorite books.

Here is a look at your sweet kids playing around the classrom.

At circle this week we enjoyed hearing about pandas latest adventures.

We celebrated a birthday.

We read great book. Some of our favorites were Max's Chocolate Chicken and The Ocean Bathtub  We also learned some really fun ocean themed songs!

The sun brought out the smiles this week!

We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed that the chicks will hatch this week. We can't wait for another week of fun with your kids.

See you tomorrow!
Meghan and Christine
