All Around Town in the YC - Teacher Lisa

It was another busy week around the Small Friends neighborhood as your sweet kids took some road trips and made many stops at the grocery store!

There were steering wheels to play with and no destination was too far away for us to explore.

At the grocery store, children could be shoppers or checkers, filling their carts to overflowing and then bagging up their groceries at the cash registers. We had a very patient store manager who tirelessly returned items to the shelves over and over and over...

Outside there was more driving on Thursday as the kids learned how to safely use our "bikes." Now that they've had a chance to practice and learn the rules, these will be out during our recess time each day.

With all of that driving, we thought it would be fun to paint with vehicles, so on Tuesday the children rolled different cars and trucks through paint and then across paper, leaving all kinds of brightly colored tracks. These are hanging up in our classroom, so please come in and have a look!

There were some construction vehicles in the texture table.

Bears and boats floated around in our water tub.

At the building table there were all kinds of magnetic components for building garbage trucks, cement trucks, tractor-trailer rigs, etc.

There was a transportation counting game out on our light table, and it was fun to see the children playing that together.

As always, the table where we keep the play dough and creation station had kids stopping by all morning long.

Ginger and Scarlet got lots of snuggles and treats.

The animal builders and Alphabots are some of the kids' favorite toys right now and get pulled off the shelves nearly every day.

These gears were a new addition and will definitely be out for a few more weeks!

During our group time we read a story called Benny's Pennies about a little boy who buys gifts for all of the people and pets in his family. Then we let the children act it out and they did such a great job!

We also sang a song about a hippopotamus who gets on a city bus and squishes everyone, as well as an old favorite - The Wheels on the Bus.

We played instruments and danced to a song about apples and bananas. We also did The Tootie Tah song - your child might know this well enough to teach it to you!

We had a friend come in and read us a story about Passover and show us a special plate used for a traditional Seder supper.

As always, we had fun swinging, running, climbing and playing outside.

The class will be heading to the beach for the next couple of school days. When we return the following week, we'll be ready to welcome our baby chicks and have some fun with eggs and all things spring!

Until then...
Lisa and Sheri
