More Space Exploration in the OC - Teacher Christine

We continued our space theme this week and had fun exploring planets and constellations. We made planet sensory bottles, had a ton of fun with a projector tracing project, and created our very own constellations!

The kids loved our Monday and Wednesday art project! Each child came out into the hall with a teacher and explored what objects looked like when projected onto the wall. They had fun moving their objects around to fit their collage onto the paper taped to the wall. Then they traced their objects with sharpie. This was a great way to practice their fine motor skills.

When they were finished tracing their collage, they came into the classroom and made it fancy with vibrant water colors! Many of the kids spent a lot of time painting and were very determined to fill in their traced objects.

The kids who finished their tracings on Monday were delighted to discover that we had moved one projector into the classroom on Wednesday and they arranged various objects and letters on the screen. Lots of kids had fun finding and projecting the letters in their names.

For our second activity on Monday, we created planet sensory bottles. In groups of three, the kids came to the science station to learn about a particular planet, the moon, the sun, or asteroids. They read a fact sheet about each one and then filled a bottle with elements related to the celestial object they were learning about. Then, with the help of a parent, they filled the bottle with colorful water and each child took turns shaking the bottle to make the objects spin!

On Wednesday we learned about constellations. The kids looked at a book about constellations and then had the opportunity to create their own unique constellation using black paper and colorful stars. They used white pencil to connect the stars and then named their constellations. These are up in the classroom. Come take a look at their wonderful creations!

Our texture table was filled with rocket ships, space aliens, astronauts, and bouncy ball planets.

At our creation we had compact disks, canning jar tops, paper stars stars and planets to decorate.

We filled our water tub with kinetic sand, planets, aliens, and space cookie cutters.

We mixed pink and purple play dough for double the fun at our play dough station this week.

Space aliens invaded our building table, and the kids had a blast creating all kinds of intergalactic aliens.

We introduced a few new fine motor games and the kids had fun incorporating these into their dramatic play.

We love looking at the world through prisms!

The kids loved exploring balance and movement on the gravitron that we had at the carpet this week. They also enjoyed walking with stilts - what a great way to practice balancing!

Three more friends had a blast with Panda! They are taking such good care of our sweet friend.

Each group taught the class about their planet sensory bottles during circle time.

We read a super silly book called Peanut Butter and Cupcake. We also enjoyed a Fancy Nancy book all about constellations and a silly book about a child who goes into space and meets a bunch of funny aliens.

The kids love singing, dancing, and doing outer space yoga.

We are all enjoying the warmer temperatures at recess!

Next week the kids will discover a grocery store set up in our classroom as we begin to explore what communities are all about.

As always, thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us!

Warmly,
Christine and Meghan
