Thanks to the donated paper towel and toilet paper rolls, this class built some awesome rockets. Whether big or small, each child had their own take on the design of their rocket. They glued things on, used colored tape, stuck stickers, and more. They are "blasting off" in our classroom windows now!
We put the materials out the next day and they continued to create!
A different kind of rocket activity took place at the other table. The kids chose a rocket with a number (10-20) on it, then had to count out the correct number of unifix cubes and build a launch pad for their number rocket. It was helpful to practice recognition and counting of these larger numbers.
There was quiet space at the light table, where they could manipulate magnetic balls, wands, and rods.
The texture table was space-y, and one of the highlights for the kids was finding and bouncing the superball "planets" that were mixed in.
A mixture of plastic amphibians, corks, eggbeaters, film canisters, and basters filled the water tub and made an interesting soup!
On Wednesday, our parent helper showed the children pictures of constellations and encouraged them to create their own personal star picture. They stuck star stickers on black paper, drew white lines to connect the stars, and finally gave their constellation a name. These are hanging in the classroom now for you to see.
Outside in the hallway, they rolled blow-up dice to determine which body part they needed to place on a corresponding space picture on the mat. You can imagine what kind of funny positions they ended up in!
The watercolor palettes were a fun addition to easel painting this week!
We heard from lots of friends about their time spent with Panda.
The kids loved air writing and guessing the mystery word, MOON. But it was even more fun to see them sound out other words when Teacher Lisa switched around and added letters.
This class keeps us smiling all day and we are seeing so much growth in each and every one of them. Next week, we kick off our community unit with a mini pizza parlor under the loft - it should be fun!
Take care,
Sheri and Lisa
