Spooky spiders in the YC- Teacher Meghan

This week things started to look a little spooky in the classroom as we transitioned from our circus theme to fun with spooky spiders!

We decided a fun way to wrap up our circus unit was to provide the kids the opportunity to paint their own faces. They were so creative during this project.

The rest of our adult led activities focused on spiders this week. We did two art projects with spiders as the focus. The kids did a collaborative spider web painting using golf balls. They also made comfy homes for their spiders by adding yarn to a paper plate covered in contact paper. At our math/science table we played a counting game that involved spider rings.

We had a "water spout" and spiders in the water tub and green slime with bugs at the light table. There were monster and bone builders at the building table and a gross motor spider game available on our flannel board.

Dress up has become a favorite activity with many of the kids and we love to see the imaginative play that is incorporated with their amazing outfits.

The kids stay so busy playing, creating and exploring!

At circle time this week we learned a ton of new songs and finger plays about spiders. One of the kids favorites was the classic "The Itsy Bitsy Spider". We read a non-fiction book about spiders and also read a few silly Halloween books including, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat by Lucille Colandro. We practiced our different yoga breaths and tried out a new yoga sequence.

We enjoyed the cold sunny fall days out at recess!

The spooky fun continues with monsters invading the classroom this week. Thank you for sharing your sweet kids with us!
See you Tuesday,
Meghan and Christine
