Haunted Houses and Sticky Spiders in the OC - Teacher Lisa

We had lots of fun this week planting bulbs, building haunted houses, rescuing spiders, playing with slime and excavating Halloween trinkets out of ice!

Our biggest project was constructing, painting and decorating haunted houses. Everyone worked so hard and the results were amazing!

We took advantage of the sun on Monday to plant tulips and daffodil bulbs out in our garden.

On Wednesday the kids used tweezers to coax spiders out of Oobleck. This goopy concoction of water and corn starch acts as both a solid and a liquid - perfect for trapping spiders and requiring rescuers to use strong fingers to pull them free!

There was more spidery fun Friday, as each child sprayed vinegar on an "egg" made of baking soda. When the frothy foam dissolved, it left a spider ring for them to keep.

They had fun playing with slime, pulling toys out of ice and building monsters.

There was a new story out on the flannel board to retell (Big Pumpkin) and new materials out in our game area and creation station.

During our story time, we learned a new Halloween yoga series and did our scarf chant, "This is a Scarf". We sang a song about planting seeds of joy, peace and love and also learned a much spookier song about an "old woman, all skin and bones." We acted out the finger play "Five Little Pumpkins".

All of our friends have done such a good job sharing their summer memory journals!

We had a little of everything - sun, wind and rain - during our recess time this week!

In the coming week we'll be making bats, mixing potions and crawling through a haunted tunnel! There's no end to the spooky fun :)

Thanks for sharing your sweet kiddos with us, and for all you do to help us make each school day special!

Warmly,
Lisa and Sheri
