The YC's Little Monsters! - Teacher Sheri

We had a frightfully good time this week! Check out all the things we were up to with spiders, monsters, and more....

On Tuesday, the kids began making their own monsters by using the fold-over paint technique. They chose colors and our parent helper placed dots of the paint on their paper. The paper was folded in half and the children rubbed it all over before opening it up to an awesome array of colors!

On the next school day, they added features to their monsters, such as eyes, horns, noses, and fur. Take a look!

The children played two monster games this week. The first one was called Shape Monster, which is a shape recognition game. They rolled a dice, identified the shape, then "fed" that shape to the monster who munched it right up.

They really enjoyed feeding the monster shapes and we continued working on shape recognition at circle time with Teacher Lisa. She read Walter's Wonderful Web and the kids all got a shape to put up on the flannel board.

The second monster game was called Go Away Monster!

Inspired by singing Itsy Bitsy Spider, we filled the water tub with a water spout, cups to pour with and lots of spiders to wash out!

At the texture table, bendy skeletons were added to the mix. What we observe in this area of the room is that no matter what is in the texture table, they mostly want to scoop, fill, and dump at this age. Even with these seemingly simple actions at the sensory areas, they are working on important skills!

Many opportunities to build and create were found at the building table, which was full of monster pieces and bones.

The children played with Halloween puzzles, a set of nesting pumpkins, and other games.

As always, creation station, playdough, and the easels were very popular places to be.

The kids are so comfortable in the room now, we see them trying new things and playing with each other more!

We continued playing with rhythm sticks and read fun books.

We loved this week with your wonderful kiddos! Next week, it's all about the great pumpkin!

See you soon,

Sheri and Lisa
