The kids put the final touches on their haunted houses Monday and we hope they make a nice addition to your Halloween decorations! They really enjoyed designing these structures.
At the other table, we challenged the children to work on their scissor skills. They cut lines in the bottom of ghosts and then used crayons to draw faces on them.
On Wednesday, we made magic potions! The kids chose items to put in their bottles and then filled them with colored water and baby oil. They were proud of them and wanted to carry them around & show them to each other.
We continued to work on patterns at the other activity table. Our parent helper began a pattern by pushing pumpkins, candy corns, or spiders into a line of playdough and the kids had to finish the pattern. They really respond to hands on learning like this.
Our spooky tunnel was set up on Friday! Armed with flashlights, the kids took turns crawling through it.
Inside the classroom, they glued Q-tip "bones" on black paper to create skeletons.
There were so many opportunities for play and learning around the room this week.
They worked on excavating eyeballs, skeletons, fangs, and more from a block of frozen ice at the water tub.
At the light table, it was Slime! They never tire of touching, stretching, and exploring slime.
Around the room, kids played with legos, a spider ring counting game, and more!
They crafted at creation station and spent time at the playdough table.
At carpet time, they learned the 5 Little Pumpkins poem and then took turns acting it out. See if your child can recite the poem for you!
And here our are 18 Little Pumpkins on the flannel board. ;) We can't wait to use these pictures of each child on the flannel board and in stories.
Teacher Lisa spelled the word Drat (which they knew from the book Big Pumpkin) and then switched out letters to make new words ending in "at."
They also played a pocket chart game with pumpkins and took turns choosing a pumpkin displaying the correct emotion.
On Friendship Circle Friday, the children took turns sharing their favorite thing about Halloween. We hope to explore more topics, particularly ones like kindness, compassion, and friendship.
With our rhythm sticks, we worked on tapping out rhythms by reading the pictures from left to right and learning to train our eyes to go to the next line and continue the pattern. We also used our sticks for the skeleton bones song!
Next week, we look forward to a Halloween celebration and more time with your sweet kids!
Until then, have a wonderful evening!
Sheri and Lisa
