Haunted tunnels and potions in the OC - Teacher Meghan

We had a fun and busy week finishing up our haunted house project, crawling through a spooky Halloween tunnel and making potions!

At our water tub this week we froze spooky items in ice. The kids worked diligently to melt the ice and free the spooky items using spray bottles, turkey basters, tongs and tweezers.

At our light table we had orange glittery slime. The kids LOVED squishing, cutting and playing with this gooey substance.

On our flannel board this week we had a fun spider web game. The kids did a great job working cooperatively together while doing this activity.

At our building table we had a haunted house.

We added mini pumpkins to our texture table this week!

Creation station and black play dough kept the kids' hands busy this week.

At our fine motor table this week we had peg boards, rubber bands and spiders available to make "webs". The kids also played happily with puzzles and other fine motor activities throughout the room.

Friends interacted and played with each other in all areas of the classroom.

On Monday the kids finished their haunted houses by adding spooky decorations like spiders, bats, snakes and webs.

Our second parent led activity on Monday was a cutting activity where the kids made large white ghosts. First the kids cut along several straight lines to add fringe to the bottom of their ghosts. Second, they added faces to their ghosts using crayons. This was a great chance for all the kids to practice their scissor and fine motor skills.

On Wednesday we had our spooky haunted tunnel set up in the hallway. The kids had a blast using flashlights to crawl through the tunnel.

Our second activity on Wednesday was making potions. The kids filled bottles with skull rings, eyeballs, skeletons and spiders. They then added orange, green or purple water and baby oil. After making their potions the kids decided what special powers their potion possessed. These potions have so many magical qualities including making people fall asleep, making people run really fast and turning people into princess unicorns.

On Friday the kids made skeletons using q-tips and google eyes.

On Friday the kids also worked on their patterning skills using spiders, candy corn and candy pumpkins. They practiced continuing an AB or ABC pattern and got the opportunity to create their own patterns.

At circle time this week we learned a silly monster finger play, read some great books including Little Pea and Frank The Seven Legged Spider. We also read Skeleton Cat with a musical accompaniment from the kids. We had another visit from shape monster and sang a goofy song about what to do if you see a big ugly monster. In yoga we played a fun yoga game where the kids had to guess a yoga pose based on its description.

We will be celebrating Halloween on Wednesday, October 31. Kids are invited to wear costumes. We have had so much fun exploring all things spooky with your kids these past few weeks.
Can't wait to see everyone on Monday,
Meghan and Christine
