Autumn has Arrived in the YC - Teachers Lisa and Jelena

Autumn arrived in our classroom this week. In the texture table children ran their hands through the soft flax seeds to find leaves, acorns and pumpkins.

At the tub there were squirrels and wood blocks, along with kinetic sand.

Pasta, beans and seeds made for some very creative collages.

There were leaves, pumpkins and acorns for sorting at the light table.

Tinker Toys kept our builders busy!

Friends always enjoy looking at books together or playing on the flannel board in our library area.

The loft/carpet area of our classroom is always bustling.

There were some new puzzles and games out this week, focusing on shapes and things that go together. Teacher Jelena helped friends play a counting game with squirrels and acorns.

We made some beautiful fall leaves on paper towels. It was fun to watch as the paint was absorbed and the colors spread across the surface. These are hanging out in our hallway, so be sure and take a look!

We read Owl Babies on Tuesday and then made our own little owls out of pine cones on Thursday. These are perched in our hallway display case - just to the right of the doors as you enter - and they are so cute!

One of the children's favorite things to do at carpet time is to dance to The Goldfish Song by Laurie Berkner. This is a silly song about fish who take showers, ride their bikes and brush their teeth...until they remember they are goldfish and are just supposed to go swimming!

We also danced with shakers that look like fruits and vegetables, played a leaf hiding game, and read Rosie's Walk during our carpet time this week.

At recess time we walked along the garden to see what is happening to the pumpkins we left out there. We also had fun exploring the water spouts "just like the ones that washed the spider away!"

Next week we will have some fun with apples! As always, look forward to seeing you Tuesday!

Warmly,
Lisa and Jelena
