On Monday, the children made ice cream cone art. This was a two-part project that involved painting with a mixture of shaving cream, glue, and water color to create a fluffy, ice cream-like texture. Then they used their fine motor skills to cut a cone out of pretty paper.
On Wednesday, we gave them a very special paint brush made from a toilet paper roll and feathers to use as an elephant trunk! They had a lot of fun painting like an elephant. This project was inspired by the book that we read last week called Elephants Can Paint Too!.
Friday was so exciting. In preparation for the ice cream social, we made our very own ice cream! The children took turns measuring the ingredients into a special ice cream ball and then went out to the hall and rolled it back and forth as a group to the song "Shake, Rattle, and Roll"! We made four batches of ice cream and many of the kids chose to help with each batch.
Our second project on Friday was a dictation and drawing inspired by the book The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Each child decided what animal they would bring to tea and what they would eat together. Then they drew a picture of the scene. They came up with some pretty creative ideas!
Here's a look at your children having fun around the room. They love exploring, making play dough creations, making lego structures, and playing "family". :)
They love playing with magna tiles on the light table.
Play dough fun!
Your wonderful children have been very busy making cards at the writing station!
Fun in the book nook!
Baby Mable feasted on lots of veggies this week!
We had tigers, a tea set, and polly pockets in our water tub this week.
Circle time was tons of fun! We read many of our favorite books - The Circus Ship, Olivia Saves the Circus, an always hilarious Elephant and Piggie book Should I Share My Ice Cream? and several beloved picture books - Hug and Ten Minutes Till Bedtime.
We also enjoyed hearing about several kids' fantastic summers!
We learned how to do an elephant breath and the downward dog yoga pose.
We sang silly songs about monkeys who escape an alligator and elephants who play in a spider web!
We had a special parent guest join us on Friday to play the guitar and sing songs! The kids loved singing one of our sunflower songs and "Old McDonald had a Farm". At the end, they each got a chance to strum the guitar.
We lucked out with beautiful weather for recess this week.
Next week we dive in to all things circus!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us!
Warmly,
Christine and Meghan
