Sunflowers in the OC - Teacher Lisa

We did lots of exploring with sunflowers in our classroom this week. After dissecting them on Monday, children stamp-painted sunflowers Wednesday, and then sketched them and painted them with water colors on Friday. You can see all of this beautiful artwork hanging in the hallway!

There were silk sunflowers for bouquets in the texture table and kids used tweezers to excavate seeds out of real sunflowers at one of our activity tables. We also used sunflower seeds to play a counting game.

We made our very first class book called, Small Friend, Small Friend, Who Do You See? Each page features a different child and they all got to decorate their pages with markers and stickers.

There were building toys out in several places around the room and at the block area children played a game to learn about all of the different shapes we have and how they are organized on the shelves.

Magnets and magnet wands were perfect for the polka dot soup in our water tub.

We love all of the collaborative play we're seeing! There is lots of cooperation and creativity happening all over the classroom.

Our guinea pigs got lots of snuggles and treats.

At the carpet we learned tree pose, shared Summer Memory Journals and acted out a story called, "Sitting in My Box." We also learned a song called "Silly Color Creatures" and a rhyme about a little mouse who claps to scare the mice away.

We took advantage of the sunny weather to put our painted rocks out in the garden.

Next week we'll have fun with a circus theme as we get ready for our ice cream social and BJ the Clown!

We'll see you Monday,
Lisa and Sheri
