Dragon Parades and Valentine's Day in the OC - Teacher Meghan

We had a busy week at Small Friends. On Monday and Wednesday the kids learned a bit about Chinese New Year. On Friday we celebrated Valentine's Day. The kids were so excited to share valentine's with their friends.

In honor of the Chinese New Year ( a few weeks late), the kids made cherry blossom paintings using the end of a plastic coke bottle. They learned that cherry blossoms were put around people's homes during Chinese New Year to bring good luck.

The kids also practiced using chopsticks to play a game in which the measured the length of "noodles" using unifex cubes.

We also had our own dragon parade around the classroom and hallway of school.

One of the kids favorite activities this week was learning how to use a magnetic marble run with the help of one of our parent helpers. We had this available for play during the rest of the week and the kids loved making different tracks for their marbles.

On Friday the kids passed out Valentine's to all of their friends.

We also did a messy art project called shaving cream marbling. The results of this project are beautiful and the kids had so much fun working on this project.

The kids also made a special heart pin for someone they love. The kids worked hard to hot glue hearts, gems and buttons on to a heart shaped piece of tag board and they were so excited to share their art with someone they love!

Puzzles were popular this week. The kids are challenging themselves with puzzles of varying sizes and number of pieces.

The kids were so busy this week playing, exploring and learning in all areas of the classroom.

This week during circle time we did love yoga, celebrated a birthday and learned a new song about the weather.

We had such a fun week with your sweet kids. Enjoy the long weekend. We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday!
Hugs,
Meghan and Christine
