Zooming to the Moon in the YC - Teacher Christine

This week we had so much fun exploring space with the younger class! We made adorable aliens, converted our loft to a rocket ship, and read books about the moon, the planets, and silly aliens. The kids sure do love exploring outer space!

On Tuesday the kids made aliens with paper cones and styrofoam spheres. They were so creative with the materials, using straws, star stickers, toothpicks, googly eyes, and pipe cleaners to make each one unique.

We brought out our planet pendulum on Tuesday. The kids used foam castle builders to create their own structures and then knocked them down with the planets. This was a ton of fun and many of the kids came back again and again.

On Thursday we did astro blast painting! We filled socks with small pebbles and the kids dipped them in neon colors. Then they stood on a stool and dropped the painted sock onto their paper. They were delighted with the results!

Our second activity on Thursday was astronaut twister! The kids chose a card with a shape on it and rolled a ball to find out if they should put their knee, hand, or foot on the shape and kept going as long as they could. They loved taking turns doing all of the steps in the game.

We filled our texture table with astronauts, aliens and planets!

We made lots of play dough cookies this week!

We exchanged fairy tales for stars and planets at creation station.

The kids loved playing with magnets and creating all sorts of interesting shapes at the light table.

We had magna tiles, tin cans, and silly eyeballs at the building for the kids to build aliens and rocket ships. They had lots of fun with these and are such creative builders!

We put out animal builders at our fine motor table and the kids had a great time making all sorts of mix and match creatures.

Here is a peek at the kids playing around the room! We turned our loft into a rocket ship complete with a control panel, space helmets, and space suits. The kids were thrilled with this new element and spent a lot of time blasting off into space with their friends.

Our book nook is a cozy spot to take a reading break.

We had rocket ships and aliens on the flannel board this week.

We had so much fun at circle time and the kids always love to dance and make music.

We read lots of books! The Aliens are Coming was huge hit. We also read Hush Little AlienThe Napping House, Little Cloud, and The Berenstain Bears on the Moon

We learned space yoga, too!

We all loved the fresh air, sunshine, and warmer temperatures this week at recess. Spring is finally here!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us and for everything you do to make Small Friends such a special place. Have a wonderful spring break!

Warmly,
Christine and Meghan
