More Fun With Fairy Tales! (OC) - Teacher Sheri

We covered many fairy tales this week, from Little Red Riding Hood to The Three Little Pigs. Children are drawn to these classic stories and want to hear them over and over again!

Inspired by The Three Little Pigs, the kids made their own little muddy pigs on Monday. They painted them with brown paint and then added google eyes and a button nose. The pigs are so cute and are hanging up in the classroom with the big bad wolf lurking nearby. :)

At carpet time the kids learned a poem about five little pigs rolling in the mud. Ask your child what the pig shouts when Farmer Brown takes it out!

Another (cleaner!) pig activity available was the water tub full of soapy water and little pigs waiting to be scrubbed clean.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff is another classic fairy tale. There's something about a scary troll and happy ending that is so appealing! On Thursday, the kids created their very own trolls with play dough and a variety of materials they could use for decoration. Check out the cute finished products sitting in our display case!

Speaking of trolls, we are beginning to see troll hair (grass) sprout from the seeds they planted last week!

And the kids absolutely loved the trolls in the texture table with rainbow colored bowls, gold coins, and shovels!

At carpet time, Teacher Sheri pretended to be a troll and the kids could be one of the billy goats trip-trapping over the bridge. They love to act stories out or just watch from the sidelines!

Another thing we did at carpet time was dance to a really fun movement song called "The Airplane Song."

We had two complimentary activities this week. The first day, our parent helper invited the kids to handle a variety of items and to see if they would sink to the bottom of a tub of water or float. They really enjoyed putting the items in the water and were sometimes surprised to see what floated.

On the next school day, the kids used the same items and tried to see if they could blow them over. Our parent helper encouraged them to make observations about the items and what was happening when they blew on them.

Around the room, the kids were very engaged! They continued to love playing with the castle on the building table....

And the wedgits at the light table.

They created many things at the creation and writing stations....

...they cut up veggies for Ginger and Scarlet...

...had fun with play dough...

...and stayed busy doing all sorts of things!

We had a wonderful week with this sweet class and we have so many more fun activities to look forward to! Thank you for sharing your kids with us and we will see you soon!

Take care,

Sheri and Lisa
