Welcome to the OC, Small Friends! - Teacher Sheri

Wow, what a wonderful week back at school! The kids were SO happy to see one another and play with friends, both old and new.

The children dove right into exploring the room. The texture table welcomed them with buckets, shovels, and windmills.

Boats, colorful bears, and water pitchers floated in the water tub, ready to be used!

The light table makes magna tiles creations look extra colorful and vibrant.

At the building table, Mr. Potato Heads were given some fun looks.

Our first art activity of the week was done in pairs and involved placing golf balls covered with paint in a cardboard box. They moved the box all around to create some very cool art, which is now hanging up in the classroom!

The other parent-led activity was an outdoor scavenger hunt. Armed with a clipboard and a checklist of items to find in nature, they searched outside in the beautiful morning.

Decorating memory boxes was a two day project and they are blinged out! Throughout the year, the children will place special items in their box and record a memory about what the item represents. They will get to take home their box of treasures at the end of the year so they will always remember the special things we did together.

The children were invited to visit the writing table and familiarize themselves with the supplies located there and how to use the space. We hope they return to this table throughout the year to explore writing and drawing.

Our last activity was a game in which they pulled out a picture card and matched it to the picture on the gameboard.

At creation station, the children let their imaginations lead the way. They are so proud of the their own inventions.

Everyone visited the playdough table at some point!

Meanwhile, Ginger and Scarlet got tons of love....

...the kids painted...

...used the wind-up toys with delight...

...and were engaged in play independently...

...and with each other.

At carpet time, we enjoyed playing shakers, dancing around and trying to balance them on different body parts.

We read a book called Sitting in My Box, and then the kids acted it out - so much fun!

The kids have begun sharing their Summer Memory Journals and we are proud of how well they are speaking about their favorite memory at carpet time!

This class has grown tremendously and is full of joy! We look forward to this year's journey together.

It was wonderful to see you all - take care and see you soon!
