Clowning Around in the YC - Teacher Lisa

We took a trip to the circus this week. We even had a circus tent in our classroom and an obstacle course for acrobats-in-training!

We painted with balloons on Tuesday. Each balloon had a little bit of water inside which added to the sensory experience. This artwork will be the first illustration in a songbook that your child will bring home at the end of the year.

We also did a little "magic" with baking soda and vinegar.

There were clowns that click together at the building table and the children made all kinds of configurations with these!

Ziploc bags filled with colorful water beads were out on our light table for some squishy, squashy, color-mixing fun.

On Thursday the children got to make their own squishy bags with clown faces inside. These came home in their school bags.

Our other parent-led activity Thursday was our circus obstacle course. Our little acrobats navigated a tight-rope, rode on a scooter, crawled through a tunnel, walked on stilts and more!

Cotton ball "popcorn" and crinkle paper "butter" were in the texture table, along with popcorn bags for filling and dumping.

Our water tub was filled with cloud dough (a mixture of flour and baby oil). This medium is soft and moldable - perfect for scooping into ice cream cones. There were even sprinkles to shake on top!

Our Creation Station and play dough area are always busy!

Scarlet and Ginger get lots of love from this class!

Here are some of the other fun things your children did during their free exploration time:

At the carpet we sang a new "Hello" song which included waving and greeting each friend by name, and we sang and danced with our shakers to "Butterfly Driving a Truck".

We also learned a Stop & Go game to play with our shakers.

We did our first "Tell-and-Draw" story about visiting the circus. Imagine our surprise when we discovered we had drawn a clown! We also read Goodnight Gorilla. Ask your child to tell you about the gorilla who let all of the animals out of their cages :).

We started learning some yoga with volcano breaths.

The weather was beautiful and we ended each day with lots of running and playing outside.

The kids are getting used to our routines and they play SO well together already! We had a great week and want to thank you again for all you do to make our mornings run smoothly and for sharing your sweet children with us!

Next week the circus fun continues with elephants and tigers. Until then...

Lisa and Sheri
