On Monday the kids played a gross motor game using our hopscotch mat. The kids took turns throwing a bean bag onto a numbered space on the mat. Each number had a corresponding action like stomping, jumping or doing belly breaths.
Our second activity on Monday was doing an observational black line drawing of the three dimensional sunflowers the kids made with model magic last week.
On Wednesday the kids water colored their drawings using green, yellow and brown liquid watercolor.
On Wednesday the kids also played a game called "Elefun" in which they used nets to catch butterflies that flew out of an elephant's trunk. What a fun way to work on eye hand coordination!
We read a nonfiction book this week called Elephants Can Paint Too about elephants who paint using their trunks. On Friday the class got a chance to pretend to be elephants and paint with "trunks" made out of toilet paper rolls and feathers. It was a fun and messy experience!
The highlight of the week was working as a group to make ice cream on Friday using an ice cream ball.
First the kids took turns measuring out the ingredients.
Next they shook and rolled the ice cream ball all over the hall to help stir up the ingredients and create ice cream.
The kids took a peek to see if all of their hard work was paying off.
Finally at snack the kids got a chance to try a small taste of all their hard work. The consensus was the ice cream turned out delicious!!!
Around the classroom we had so many fun circus and animal themed items for the kids to play with.
There was a finger puppet stage.
An animal safari was at the texture table.
Tigers and a tea set were at the water tub.
Brightly colored castle builders were available at the light table.
Translucent magna tiles were the base for amazing towers and structures at the building table.
Brightly colored elephants served as a base at creation station.
We had a variety of fine motor activities including crazy creatures to build, animal puzzles and a barrel of monkeys.
At the play dough table we had brightly colored clowns to squish into the dough.
As always so much creative and collaborative play occurred in all corners of the classroom.
During circle time this week we read some amazing stories including Goodnight Gorilla and The Tiger Who Came To Tea.
Teacher Christine taught us a funny poem about some elephants who went to play on a spider web.
One of our parents did a fun movement activity with the kids.
The kids danced to a silly song about popcorn with Teacher Meghan.
We practiced some awesome yoga moves including elephant breaths and a gorilla pose.
The kids also got a chance to share some more of their summer memories.
During recess this week the kids found a special place in our garden to put the rocks they painted in class last week.
We enjoyed all of the sunshine at recess this week by playing with friends.
Next week our circus unit continues with clowns, cloud dough and popcorn.
Thank you for sharing your amazing kids with us. We will see you tomorrow,
Teacher Meghan and Teacher Christine
