Winter is Wonderful in the YC! - Teacher Christine

What a wonderful week of winter fun we had in the Younger Class! This week we had fun making snow themed art, building marble runs, and playing with a snowy scene in the water tub.

On Tuesday we made and decorated the cutest "melted snowmen". The kids painted their snowmen onto paper using a mixture of shaving cream and baking soda. Then, they decorated them using buttons, paper scarves and hats, and branch arms. These beauties are up in the classroom. Take a look!

We also played a fun counting game called "Mitten Shake and Spill" at our math/science table. Each child scooped a small cupful of snowflakes and "spilled" them on to a mitten. Then they practiced counting the snowflakes!

On Thursday, we painted with ice cubes. The kids really enjoyed both stamping and and swirling the colorful ice cubes on their paper.

On Thursday we made footprints in play dough. Using bears, tigers, and other fun animals, the kids practiced making and identifying what different animal tracks look like. This was a huge hit with many of the kids!

We had pretend snow to play with in the water tub this week. The kids loved scooping and pouring out this fluffy snow made of baking soda and conditioner. :)

The play dough station is always a hit with the younger class! They love to squish, roll, and make special creations for friends and teachers.

We welcomed new fishy friends into our classroom! The kids LOVE to watch them swim all around the tank. :)

The kids had a blast creating marble runs at the building table.

Baby Mabel received lots of love and attention this week.

Here's a look at your kids playing around the room. They are so busy playing creatively together!

At circle time, we mastered winter animal yoga. The kids really seem to enjoy starting out circle time with calming breaths and different yoga poses. They also enjoyed singing "Have You Ever Seen a Penguin Come to Tea" and "A Walrus Washes His Winter Coat". We also added a sweet song about snowflakes floating to the ground.

We read a book about footprints in the snow as well as some YC favorites: There's a Monster in Your Book and The Duckling Gets a Cookie!?

We color matched cute mittens for sweet kittens.

It was cold, but that didn't stop us from having lots of fun at recess.

We had such a wonderful week with your sweet kids. See you on Tuesday!

Warmly,
Christine and Meghan
