Smitten with January! (OC) - Teacher Sheri

Winter art and games have kept this class so busy, January seems to be whizzing by!

This week, the kids worked on a really beautiful art project of birch trees in winter. The first step in this artwork was taping tree trunks, painting watercolor, and sprinkling epsom salts.

The second phase was adding lines to the trunks to create the look of bark. We had a piece of birch bark the kids were able to feel and study!

Everyone had tons of fun at the water tub with "insta-snow."

Slime made an appearance at the light table!

At the building table, the kids matched mittens and hung them with clothespins.

Friends gathered to play at the texture table and creation station.

We continued to work on name writing and did a really fun snowman name project. The kids are making huge strides with their writing skills!

One of the other skills we want to focus on is counting up to 20 and number recognition. We practiced this by playing a snowman game with dice.

We are observing many positive social interactions!

The kids learned a fun new penguin song - ask if they can do it for you!

We also took our weekly walk up to the library for stories. They are handling this transition well!

Looking forward to next week - we will be making crystals, putting mementos in memory boxes, practicing name writing, and more!

Best,
Sheri and Lisa
