Snowpeople in the OC - Teacher Meghan

Many of us had our fingers crossed for some snowy flakes in Portland this week. When that did not materialize we brought the snowy fun into the classroom.

We did a fun multi-day project which involved making snow people out of "clean mud".

On Monday the kids helped to make "clean mud" by grating Ivory soap and tearing up toilet paper. We added a bit of water to these ingredients and got a cleaning smelling clay- like substance that was perfect for building snow people.

On Wednesday we made snow people using clean mud as the snowman base. The kids then added features such as toothpicks, straws, lids and buttons to make their own creative version of a snow person.

On Friday the kids did an observational drawing of their snow person using sharpie markers. They studied all the features of their three-dimensional structures and then recreated them on paper. These fun snow sculptures and drawings are displayed in our hallway. Come take a peek when you have a second.

Some other fun parent-led activities included fishing for letters in a boat and with a polar bear. Both of these activities helped the kids work on letter identification and letter sounds.

We also worked on scissor skills this week and taught the kids how to make snowflakes using coffee filters.

Creation station continues to be very popular and the winter themed creations coming out of this area are so fun and unique.

Another popular area this week was our marble run on the building table. The kids loved collaborating to make huge marble runs. It was so fun to watch them work together and problem solve as they built different structures.

We had "snow" in the water tub this week and the kids had a blast playing together.

Here is a peek at your kids at play in other areas of the classroom.

During circle time we celebrated a birthday and learned a super silly song about an Austrian who went yodeling.

The kids are loving their Friday adventure up to the library and did a great job walking safely through the building and participating in story time.

We love this wonderful group of kids and have so much fun with them each week!
Hope you enjoyed the long weekend.
See you Wednesday,
Meghan and Christine
