On Monday the children grated Ivory soap, tore toilet paper and put all of that into a bowl with some water to make "clean mud".
This white, moldable medium was perfect for building snow people on Wednesday and then accessorizing them with buttons, sequins, scarves, pipe cleaners and toothpicks.
On Friday, children did observational drawings of their snow people and painted them. These are on display out in our hallway, so please take a look!
We played two alphabet games this week. The first was indoor hockey, where children practiced letter names written on paper plates as they whacked them into the goal.
The second was using a paintbrush to clear away rice, hunting for specific letters hidden underneath.
We learned how to cut snowflakes out of coffee filters and to our surprise and delight, it started snowing for real during this project!
There were penguins, jewels, snowflakes and boats at the water table.
Seals and other animals were out on the light table, along with glass ice cubes and artificial snow.
Skiers rode down the mountain at our building table and children continued to enjoy the polar bears and large glass ice blocks at the texture table.
During our time at the carpet we read stories about snow, played a game about falling off of a sled, danced to a song about a penguin and heard a "Cut and Tell" story called Snow Cake.
For our Friendship Circle, we shared things that we liked doing at school this week.
We got to hear stories with Teacher Casey up at the library.
It was chilly outside, but the fresh air always feels great!
We have one more week of snowy fun and then we will transition to Chinese New Year and look ahead to February. Thanks for sharing your sweet children with us - we love our mornings with them!
We'll see you Wednesday,
Lisa and Sheri
