On Tuesday each child had a film canister to fill with water, a splash of color, baby oil, gems and glitter to make a magic potion. These were fun to play with at the light table, look at with our flashlights, or just carry around during our play time!
They also used shaving cream as a base, added some water colors, swirled them around with a wooden stylus, and then placed a piece of paper on top. Once the paper was lifted away and the excess shaving cream was scraped off with a squeegee, artists were left with a beautiful print. These are hanging in our classroom, so come in an see.
On Thursday there were magnetic balls to dip in paint, spoon onto a piece of paper in a tray, and then move by waving a magnetic wand along the bottom of the tray. It's so fun to see the balls spinning and twirling across the surface of the paper as if by magic!
There was a new game to play called "Hop Along Frogs" that involved pulling frogs out of their little holes to expose their colored bases and then finding matching lily pads for them to land on. This game can also be extended to included some memory strategies, so is perfect for all levels.
At the texture table, children could fill vases and arrange huge bouquets of red, pink and white flowers.
There were Valentine gems, pink silk flower petals, scoops and cups at the water tub. At the children's request we added soap bubbles and scrub brushes - perfect for combating the cold and flu germs that might be lurking in our classroom :).
There were fairies, gems and hearts with different numbers on them at the light table.
Our deep red, sparkly play dough was still in great condition to roll out, slice up or press into Valentine candy boxes.
The kids are really enjoying the semi trucks that we borrowed from the other classroom. Anything they can fill up with something and move around the room is very popular!
They've also really enjoyed the Fisher Price toys.
The creation station continues to be a place the children enjoy - using glue and tape to their heart's content. It's always fun to see what they make at this table.
Here are some of the many other activities that were going on this week during our play time:
During our time together at the carpet we sang some of our "old" songs like Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear and did the Freeze Dance. We also did our dragon breathing and read some silly books about underwear! We read My Many Colored Days and helped build an illustration on the flannel board to match what was happening in the story.
It was sunny and cold for our time out on the playground, but unlike last week at least we got to go outside!
Next week we will head to the land of fairy tales, enjoying stories and activities about The Three Pigs, Jack & the Beanstalk and more!
Until then,
Lisa and Sheri
