Cakes on the Griddle in the OC - Teacher Lisa

Wow, the first month of 2019 flew by and we went out in style on Wednesday with our annual and much-loved Pajama Pancake Day!

The kids had SO much fun making and eating pancakes. They were able to help mix batter, ladle their own cakes onto the griddle, and flip them when they were ready. We could tell that many of them help do this at home, too!

They were very creative with supplies we put out for accessorizing their stuffed friends. Fancy crowns, bracelets, necklaces, capes and more were created.

On Monday, children added an icicle ornament to their memory boxes and some wintry stickers to their sticker books. It's always nice to have a chance to look back over the month and remember all we've done together.

Our other parent-led project on Monday was drawing self-portraits to add to their portfolios. It's amazing to compare recent portraits with the ones they did at the end of last school year - so much growth to celebrate!

Second only to making pancakes was the "hot cocoa" cloud dough we had in the tub this week. A soft mixture of flour, baby oil and Swiss Miss, together with marshmallows and rainbow sprinkles thrown in for good measure made for lots of delicious-looking concoctions.

We put some mirrors out on the light table to switch things up a bit, along with snowflakes and gems so that the kids could explore reflections.

At the building table there were several types of materials - magnetic rods & balls, translucent geometric blocks, and popoids - that the kids could put together in all kinds of combinations.

We took the Perler beads out again this week and the kids kept us busy ironing!

Several children enjoyed cutting out snowflakes at the creation station, and during our story time on Tuesday everyone learned a story about Snow Cake that they can tell while they snip away.

Here are some of the other things kids were busy doing during the week:

During our time together at the rug we learned a silly song about pink pajamas, did our Arctic Yoga Flow for one last week, and did our Walrus Washing song with our stuffed animals in place of scarves. We read stories about bedtime and winter.

The weather was beautiful for our outside play time, which we ALWAYS appreciate!

We look forward to all the fun that February has in store, celebrating love and friendship, learning a little bit about Chinese New Year, and meeting our friend Panda, who will begin having sleepovers with Small Friends at the end of the month.

Thanks for all you do to make each morning GREAT! We love coming to "work" every day :).

Best,
Lisa and Sheri
