Happy New Year and Welcome Back to the YC! Teacher Lisa

Oh my goodness, it's been GREAT to be back at school with your sweet kiddos! Our first few days together have been a blizzard of activity.

There's a powdery "insta-snow" in the water tub, perfect for shoveling, making smoothies or burying dinosaurs.

The texture table has become a snowy land full of polar bears and icebergs.

There are supplies for making snowmen on the flannel board.

The creation station has lots of sparkly, shimmery supplies, perfect for wintry projects.

At the building table children constructed marble mazes. This is such a great opportunity for trial-and-error problem solving and critical thinking.

It was good to get back to the play dough...

...and the Legos...

...and the guinea pigs...

...and all of the other fun things to do at school.

On their first Thursday back, children worked with our parent volunteer to make a snowflake mural using white paint, stamps and glitter. This is hanging in our classroom, so come in and take a look!

They also built a collaborative sculpture with marshmallows and toothpicks.

On Tuesday they got to play in shaving cream. We put out some trucks and plastic bears, but the kids thought the dinosaurs needed to be in there, too!

We brought the rocking boat in so they could go fishing. As they caught fish, they identified the shapes drawn on the back.

Sometimes it's just nice to sit out on the water with a good book :)

This most recent Thursday they played another shape game. This one involved swinging hockey sticks to knock paper plates with shapes drawn on them into the net. So fun!

The shaving cream came out again, but this time it was to create melting snowmen. Each artist made a puddle of snow and filled it with button eyes, a black top hat, stick arms and  a carrot nose. The final touch was to glue a bright yellow sun up in the sky.

We learned several songs - one about building a snowman and others about snowmen melting slowly to the ground.

Our yoga since we've been back has been practicing elephant breaths, and we've had fun with a scarf song all about kernels of popcorn. Pop! Pop! Pop!

We've had some chilly weather, but wind, rain or shine, we sure are glad to get some fresh air at the end of each school day.

We're all so glad to be back - we hope you are too!

See you soon,
Lisa and Sheri
