"Clean snow" people, ice fishing, polar bears and instant snow provided the framework for a week of wintery fun at Small Friends.
On Monday the kids jumped into a wooden boat and tried out their fishing skills. The fish had letters and shapes on them that the kids identified as they put their catch into their bucket.
The kids got busy on Monday helping to grate ivory soap and tear toilet paper as the base for "clean snow". They used the clean snow to sculpt snow people on Wednesday.
On Wednesday the kids used the clean snow to make snow people. They added buttons, toothpicks, gems, lace and yarn to create features on their snow people. These 3-d snow sculptures turned out so cute. Stop by our display case in the hallway to check them out.
On Wednesday the kids played a polar bear fishing game. They fished for magnetic letters to spell out a variety of words.
On Friday the kids learned how to cut snowflakes out of coffee filters. This was such a fun way to work on scissor skills.
On Friday the kids drew their three dimensional snow people using sharpies. The kids were so focused on representing their sculptures through their drawings.
At our texture table this week we had polar bears, icebergs and sparkly snowflakes.
We had instant snow in our water table this week. What a sensory delight!!!
Blue and purple play dough was so enjoyable to squish and mold.
We had a marble run at our building table that sparked endless creativity and fun.
We had all the parts to make silly snowmen at our light table.
Painting with ice cubes was a huge hit at creation station this week.
Friends also had fun playing with glue, tape and scissors.
Friendships continue to blossom and grow during play.
We also enjoyed some bonding time with our furry friend Mabel.
At circle time we worked on rhyming and color identification when we played a fun mitten game with Teacher Christine.
We are also practiced pre-writing skills and letter identification.
We celebrated a very special 1/2 birthday during circle time!
We also had a blast learning some new winter songs. We sang a song about a walrus washing his winter coat, an Austrian who went yodeling and penguins who went to tea. Ask your kids to sing you some of their favorites.
We had such a wonderful week learning and growing with your sweet kids.
This is a short week due to Martin Luther King, Jr. day!
See you on Wednesday,
Meghan and Christine
