Autumn’s in the air and in the OC Teachers Jelena and Lisa

The students were welcomed into a fall themed classroom on Wednesday. We had the texture table full of flax seed that is smooth, silky soft and oh so fun to play in!

The water tub (no water) had kinetic sand with squirrels, natural wood pieces, chestnuts, bowls and cookie cutters for some more texture fun.

We worked on our memory boxes on Wednesday. The students were able to put a bejeweled spider in the box, share an October memory and add a pumpkin to their little book.

There were several fine motor activities around the classroom like  these trees that the student could thread with beads or leaves. And some small teddy bears to dress in a costume.

At the light table we had translucent leaves and acorns to sort into bowls and film canisters.

There was a letter matching acorn activity with upper and lower case letters.

On Friday, the kids did pattern making with colorful pom poms.

At the building table some very colorful tinker toys.

At creation station, the students could decorate an owl or create art out of beans, corn, seeds or fall shaped pasta!

The students really enjoyed playing a game called “The Sneaky Squirrel” where with one spin you could have the wind blow all your acorns away or the sneaky squirrel could take one of your acorns!

There was a ‘matching items that go together’ puzzle on the puzzle table.

And tangram puzzles.

The felt board, where many stories were brought back to life!

Lots of activities around the room kept everyone engaged.

As usual, many books were read.

During group time more stories, movement and instruments; shakers in fruit and vegetable shapes, so fun!

Friday Friendship Circle, a question is posed and you may answer when you have the rock that goes around the circle. It’s a very special time.

We checked on our pumpkins outside in the garden, lots of new holes!

Outdoor time, here we come!

Next week we will look forward to ABC Bingo, some apple activities and more fall themes. See you on Monday!

Autumn Invades the OC- Teacher Meghan and Teacher Christine

The kids came to school on Wednesday and discovered Autumn had invaded the classroom....

We had all the fixings for apple pie in the water tub this week.

There were fuzzy squirrels, squirrel builders and acorns on the building table.

On the light table we had translucent yellow, red, green and orange blocks for building.

We had a board game called "Sneaky Squirrel" that the kids loved playing together.

There were apples with the alphabet letters written on them hidden all over the room for the kids to find as they played.

The texture table was full of popcorn kernels and a farm scene.

At the play dough area kids found translucent leaves, leaf cookie cutters and silk leaves to add to their play dough creations.

Creation station had fun new fall stickers, apple bases and leaf bases for the kids to get crafty with.

One of the fine motor options this week was decorating trees with beads and leaves.

Here are some photos of your children at play around the room.

The teacher led activity on Wednesday was adding another fun item to memory boxes and a sticker to the kids sticker book. This month the kids added sparkly spider rings and a pumpkin sticker. The kids reminisced about all the fun we had exploring all things spooky in October.

On Friday we played ABC soup with the kids. This game focuses on letter recognition and identifying letter sounds. The kids really enjoyed this game! We will continue to work on these concepts in a variety of ways throughout the year.

At circle time this week we introduced some new instruments. We sang songs about squirrels and apples. We read some fall themed books including one about an acorn who wore polka dots pants. We also started to learn a new yoga sequence dedicated to animals.

The weather was kind to us this week and we got a few minutes of sunshine while we played at recess!

The fall fun will continue next week with new autumn games and some apple themed activities. Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us. We love spending our week with them.

See you tomorrow,

Meghan and Christine
