Year of the Tiger in the YC-Teachers Jelena and Lisa

We kicked off the week with an exciting Year of the Tiger theme. The students had so much fun making a paper plate tiger! First, they painted on some glue then they added stripes, eyes, ears and nose.

In the water table we had red water with squishy water beads, lots of snakes, cups and some nets for scooping them all up!

The rice remained in the texture table but we added traditional Asian items like chopsticks, small bowls and spoons for collecting golden fish and coins, red beads and trinkets. Of course there were several tigers to add to the fun!

Our fine motor activities was a counting game with candy and chopsticks. To play, students roll the dice, count the dots, and with their chopsticks they put that many candies in a to go box. Those chopsticks are not easy to use! And the candy was super tempting, however, they are old and very hard!

Red and gold translucent blocks at the light table with some flying ponies made for lots of stacking and building.

On Thursday, the students decorated model magic hearts using colorful beads, buttons and/or gems! They are all so festive!

We had lots of gluing, cutting, and creating at creation station!

On the rug we enjoyed some puppet shows, big trucks that could transport a lot of items, and delicious food from our prized chefs!

A “new to us” toy was this Fisher Price parking garage…

We love how busy everyone gets when the building blocks come out.

Look around the room… shape puzzling, playing house, ball run, marble run building, play dough, and so much more!

There’s plenty of love for our classroom pets, Scarlett and Ginger.

Sometimes there’s no room on the couch in the reading area for the reader so we sit across from the students.

We jiggled our scarves, and froze and melted with a song. We enjoyed lots of stories and a hunt for the hidden golden fish behind one of the zodiac signs on the felt board!

Ask your student what Mousey Brown was wearing when we knocked on her door (hint: Pajamas). Mousey Brown is very shy, but comes out to say hello from time to time. (She’s a finger puppet on teacher Lisa’s finger, hard to see in the picture.)

This is how it looks at snack time now.
We are able to space ourselves outside on these big tables with lots of fresh air!

No blog is complete without our recess photos. We chase each other, run, dig and make pinecone soup! Play hide and go seek and swing on the swings. And go up and down the slides!

What a super fun week!
We are looking forward to another exciting week with your amazing kids! Pajama day is on Tuesday!! Your child can wear their Pj’s and bring a stuffy to school.
See you Tuesday.
Warmly,
Teachers Jelena and Lisa
