Clowning Around in the OC - Teacher Lisa

Without a doubt, our Ice Cream Social is one of the most memorable events of our school year and we sure had fun with it as our theme this week!

We made ice cream cones to hang in the hallway, mixing glue and shaving cream as topping and adding glitter for good measure. Cutting the cones was great scissor practice and everyone did really well!

We played "circus trick hopscotch" in the hallway, tossing beanbags to different numbers and then performing the tricks or yoga poses that were taped to the squares.

We read books about elephants who could paint and did our own version of "painting with our trunks" at the easels.

We also read a story about a little girl who had a tiger over for tea. As a response, everyone told their own short story about an animal they would have over and what delicious things they would eat and drink. These were added to the portfolios we keep in the classroom.

And speaking of delicious things to eat...we made our own ice cream. YUM!

Around the room, children played in a circus tent, built with Zoobs, explored translucent shapes, stacked clown blocks, had tea parties and put on shows for each other.

There were many self-guided projects happening at our creation station and writing area. We love to see what your children create!

We learned a scarf song about popcorn and another one about different flavors of ice cream.

It's so fun to see friendships developing and to hear children collaborating and problem-solving together.

Of course, our Main Event was the Ice Cream Social on Wednesday night and it did not disappoint!

In the coming week we will spend one more day with our circus theme, painting our faces and adding treasures to our Memory Boxes. Then we'll have some fun with spiders, bats and all things Halloween. OOOOOOOOOOOOH!

We'll see you all on Monday,
Lisa and Sheri

Ice Cream and Clowns in the OC - Teacher Meghan

We had so much fun at the Ice Cream Social with all the OC Small Friends families on Wednesday evening. BJ the clown was hilarious as always and we LOVE to see the happiness and laughter this event brings the kids. Thanks to the hospitality committee for all their help!

The circus theme continued this week with some fun adult-led activities. The kids practiced their fine motor and counting skills while freeing animals from their cages. The kids also worked on creating patterns in a game called "Glee Ring Circus". We had a blast doing a circus obstacle course in the hallway.  Bubble art and self-portraits were two of our art activities.

The kids were busy this week making ice cream out of cloud dough, putting on puppet shows and building with clown builders. Reading in the book nook, creation station, the paint easels, light table and writing center were all popular areas.

There is so much imaginative and collaborative play happening in the classroom. It is so fun to watch the kids' relationships and friendships evolve and grow.

At circle time this week the kids acted out the book "Caps For Sale" by Esphyr Slobodkina. They loved this activity. We also did songs, finger plays and yoga centered around the theme of popcorn. The kids are also enjoying sharing their summer memories with the class.

We enjoyed the dry fall weather this week at recess!

The circus has left town and the classroom is starting to look a little spooky as spiders come to play!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful kids with us,
Meghan and Christine
