Exploring Sunflowers in the OC - Meghan and Christine

This week we explored sunflowers! On Monday the kids looked at giant sunflower heads with magnifying glasses and used tweezers to pull out the seeds. On Friday, the kids used sponges in the shape of the sunflower parts (stem, leaves and petals) to re-create a sunflower on paper.

In the classroom we kept the sunflower theme going in certain areas of the classroom. We had yellow play dough with sunflower accessories such as seeds and green pipe cleaners for stems. At the texture table we had silk sunflowers and vases.

At our water tub we had bears and giant pitchers this week, translucent pyramids for building on the light table and magnetic rods and balls for creating things on the building table.

This week we explored our wooden block area with the kids by playing a fun game that involved counting and building with a variety of blocks.

The kids continue to explore every nook and cranny of the classroom. They love all the art, toys, puzzles, games and dress- up options offered around the room.

At circle time we danced, sang a song with a bumble bee named "Hickety Pickety", learned songs about sunflowers, played instruments, read stories and did zoo yoga just to name a few of our fun circle time activities.

The kids are doing an AMAZING job learning the rhythm and routines of our classroom. We had an awesome second week with them and we can't wait to introduce our circus theme next week!!

See you on Monday,
Meghan and Christine
