It's Turkey Time in the OC - Teacher Meghan

We had two fun-filled days of Thanksgiving and turkey themed activities to get us all excited for the long holiday weekend!

On Monday the kids went on a nature walk and found natural items they found interesting. They brought these items back to the classroom and looked at them with magnifying glasses. The kids then chose their favorite items to hot glue on a large sheet of paper to make a collaborative nature collage.

Our second adult led activity on Monday was to make egg carton owls. The owls are on display in the hallway and they turned out so cute!!

During circle time on Monday the kids acted out the story Stone Soup with Teacher Christine. On Wednesday the kids got a chance to make "stone soup" with plastic vegetables and a large pot.

The kids also got the opportunity to make real stone soup during one of our parent led activities on Wednesday. The kids busily chopped carrots, celery, potatoes and green beans and added them to our simmering broth. We all got a chance to try our stone soup during snack time. It was delicious.

Our second parent led activity on Wednesday was talking about what we are thankful for and creating a thankful page for the kids' portfolios.

In our water tub this week we got in the Thanksgiving spirit with an inflatable turkey, cranberries, rosemary, turkey basters and pie pans.

At our texture table we had bright feathers and terracotta pots decorated like turkeys.

At our light table we had translucent turkey bodies and bright feathers.

At our play dough table this week the kids made leaf snowmen and holiday cookies!

Scattered around the room we had several Thanksgiving and fall themed games and activities for the kids to explore.

The kids sorted colors using different colored turkey containers.

They used tweezers to pull apart and dissect dried corn.

They played a counting game with felt apple trees.

And they helped Livingstone Mouse find his house in a board game based after a story we read in class.

Creation station was busy this week while kids made Thanksgiving themed crafts such as colorful corn and turkey shakers.

Friends were busy playing all over the classroom.

Circle time was busy this week.

Teacher Christine told the story of "Stone Soup" and had the kids help her act it out.

We sang a silly song called Albuquerque Turkey.

Teacher Meghan read a funny story called Turkey Trouble.

We moved our bodies with a silent Thanksgiving yoga sequence.

And we all participated in a thankfulness circle.

The classroom transformed over the holiday weekend and it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in here. We have a whirlwind of activities and fun planned over the next three weeks before winter break.
So excited to see you on Monday,
Meghan and Christine
