Fall is Fabulous in the YC! - Teacher Christine

We had a wonderful week full of fall-inspired art, games, and books! This month our themes will be focused on apples, squirrels, and leaves. This fall has been so beautiful and the kids are really embracing all that fall has to offer.

We have split peas in the texture table and a forest scene complete with leaves, branches, squirrels, and acorns. The kids love helping the squirrels dig for nuts.

In the water table, we have pie tins and whisks. This week, we swapped our foam apples for small translucent apples, and pumpkins. We also added soap and the kids had extra fun whisking up bubbles!

This week was our second week with Lincoln Logs on the building table and the kids really got the hang of how these pieces go together! They built many interesting structures and had a lot of fun learning how to stack the pieces to create a house.

Our play dough table provides never ending sensory fun. This week, we added translucent leaves for the kids to press in to the soft orange dough.

We added a variety of leaves, colorful apples, fall stickers, pasta, and shiny leaves to collage with at creation station.

Baby Mabel got lots of pets, snuggles, and treats this week.

On Tuesday the kids had a blast creating tree paintings using scrub brushes in red, yellow, and orange. Instead of paint brushes, they used scrub brushes to add leaves.

At our math and science table on Tuesday we had a variety of counting, color sorting, and patterning games for the kids to learn!

On Thursday, the kids created the most adorable "owl babies" based on the book of the same name. They used pine cones as the base and added soft batting, feathers, googly eyes, and a beak to complete their owl. These are displayed in the case outside the room. They are so adorable!

On Thursday the kids tasted red, green, and yellow apples! They each decided which one was their favorite and the class created a graph to sort each child's favorite by color. Red apples won by a landslide!

Picture day was on Thursday and the kids were so excited to go out to the picture bus to have their school picture taken. This was a new experience for all of them and they did so well!

During free playtime the kids love to build with our big blocks, play with the cars and trucks, and our play food at the kitchen. They are so inquisitive and having fun forming new friendships and exploring collaborative play.

During circle time his week, we read Owl Babies, a funny book called Rhyming Dust Bunnies and books about funny squirrels and bears. Teacher Meghan introduced the kids to a fun flannel board game about squirrels taking acorns off of a tree and they each got a turn to take an acorn and then we counted down to see how many had disappeared. We played another fun counting game about five little forest animals scampering on the ground, and did Thanksgiving yoga. We also learned a new song about autumn leaves and taught the kids sign language for the colors red, yellow, orange, and brown.

We had beautiful, cold fall weather at recess this week. These kids love to swing, climb on the play structure, dig in the dirt and play chase the teacher!

Next week we continue our celebration of the fall season with leaf and squirrel art, shape sorting and fall-inspired songs and games! Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us.

Warmly,
Christine and Meghan
