Feeling Thankful in the OC - Teacher Sheri

We  enjoyed more fall fun this week and November is just flying by! The kids stayed busy making egg carton owls, cooking stone soup, and more.

Our first activity of the week was egg carton owls. The kids colored their owl beaks, then chose eyes and feathers to glue in place and pipe cleaner talons to fasten on. They are so much fun and we hope the kids enjoy perching them somewhere in your home!

For our other parent led activity, the children reached into a box and pulled out an item. They identified the item and then had to decide what the beginning sound was and hence, what letter the word started with. Once they determined that, they matched up the little item inside the corresponding acorn.

We put this out on the next school day and they were able to play with it some more.

Teacher Lisa told a really fun version of Stone Soup using real food!

Then on Wednesday, the room smelled delicious as we simmered and cooked our own Stone Soup. The kids loved peeling and chopping the vegetables and stirring the soup. A lot of us tried the soup at snack time and it was really good!

At the other activity table, the kids decorated a Thankful page and thought of something they were thankful for. It's really sweet to see what things they are thankful for - moms, dads, brothers, and even flu shots!

It wouldn't be the week of Thanksgiving without our blow up turkeys in the water tub! Along with real rosemary and cranberries, the kids played with the basters, hand mixers and had so much fun.

There were visits to the texture table, where flax seed remained a big draw. It has such a nice way of flowing through their hands and windmills and it's easy to scoop and fill things with.

On Wednesday, had some big helpers scoop all the flax seed out and carry it up to the dumpsters. We are making room for rice in the texture table for next week!

Back by request, we had the magna tiles out on the building table. There were some SUPER tall towers built and different structures made. We swapped out our soft blocks for the magna tiles at the carpet because we know they will continue to enjoy those.

At the light table, the kids could arrange leaves into shapes, which was inspired by the book we read called Leaf Man.

There was so much going on around the room. The kids crafted their own shakers at creation station...

They could top pieces of pie with cotton ball marshmallows to match the number on the pies...

And there was so much imaginative play.

We ended our last carpet time thinking of the things we were grateful for with some deep breaths and thankful yoga.

It was a wonderful two days together before we headed into the Thanksgiving weekend. Next week, we jump right into some holiday fun!

Warmly,

Sheri and Lisa
