Winter Wonder in the OC- Teacher Meghan and Teacher Christine

It was wonderful to see the kids after a long and restful winter break. The kids were so happy to see each other and did not miss a beat as they dove into all the new activities around the classroom and exuberant play with their friends. Our theme this month is all things winter and many of the activities in the classroom reflect that theme.

In the texture table we have white rice with trucks and windmills.

In the water tub we had penguins, snowflakes and styrofoam icebergs floating on the water.

On our light table we had rock salt that represented ice, translucent glass ice cubes and small artic creatures completed this frosty area.

On the building table we had a ski slope and ice fishing.

At creation station we had bears to decorate and we taught interested students how to make snowflakes out of coffee filters.

Around the classroom we had puzzles, games and activities that reflected our winter theme.

On Wednesday the kids dipped snowflake shaped stamps in paint and then stamped them on construction paper. They finished off their wintry scene with a healthy shake of glitter to add shimmer and shine.

On Friday the kids made structures using toothpicks and mini marshmallows. They loved this project and were all eager to participate when it was their turn.

The kids were so excited to be reunited and happily engaged in play with each other during free choice.

At circle time Teacher Christine taught the kids a song about a walrus who washes his winter coat. The kids also got to meet Warren the walrus puppet and got a chance to give him a pat.

Teacher Meghan taught the kids a song called "Snowy" that is sung to the tune of "Bingo".

Teacher Meghan also read a book about identifying footprints in the snow. The class did an activity at circle time where they tried to guess which animal left footprints in the play dough.

We are so happy to be back in the classroom with your sweet kids! Next week we will be doing a multi-day project with clean snow and snowmen.

Huge hugs,

Meghan and Christine
