Fun With Snow in the OC - Teachers Christine and Meghan

What a fun filled "snowy" week we had in the Older Class! This week, we filled the classroom with all things snow themed - the children had a great time exploring the pretend snow in the water tub, the snow people on the light table, creating their very own snowman sculpture, and singing winter themed songs at circle time!

This week we had a great time making a snow-like clay to create our very own snowman sculptures! On Monday, we used a special grater to grate soap. Next, we ripped up toilet paper and added a bit of water to hold it all together. Last, the children helped to knead and mold this dough together to create a workable snow-like clay!

On Wednesday, the children used the snow that they made to create their own whimsical snowman! There was lots of rolling, and deorating with gems, tooth picks, pipe cleaners, buttons and googly eyes! They are on display outside of the classroom -- take a look!

To wrap up our snowman project, on Friday, the children did an observational drawing of their snowman and used watercolors to add all of the beautiful features! From start to finish this was such a fun and engaging art project!

The children were delighted to find "snow" along with gems and polar bears in the water tub this week!

We had translucent snowmen and features on the light table.

We had fun making animal tracks in the playdough along with all of the usual playdough cakes and cookies! :)

The marble run was a HUGE hit this week on the building table. The children loved problem solving and created some fantastic marble runs!

The children cut snowflakes and created some amazing art at the creation station this week. They are so creative and imaginative!

We had a lot of fun putting together puzzles, too!

Here's a look at your children playing around the room. They love to engage in pretend play and to build with magna tiles, legos, and blocks. Collaborative play is in full swing in the older class and it's so much fun to see them work and problem solve together.

We read several fun books at cirlce time this week! Polar Bear Scare and There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow were two favorites. We also read a sweet story called Stella Queen of the Snow. After a busy morning playing, the children really like to listen to stories.

We celebrated a special birthday!

We sang a few funny songs - one about a snowman who melts and another to called "Snowy" to the tune of the song "Bingo"!

We had fun learning the five little snowman poem.

Teacher Meghan led the children on a guided relaxation activity. They relaxed their whole bodies from head to toe and then thought of something fun they had done and afterwards had the chance to share it with the group!

We told the story of a mom wh made a "snow cake" and when she cut a slice and walked away, her family and their pets came and took a bite! At the end, we revealed a beautiful snowflake.

We had great weather at recess this week!

As always, thank you for sharing your amazing children with us! See you next week!

Warmly,

Christine and Meghan
