Penguin Antics in the YC - Teacher Lisa

The forecast is still cold and snowy in our classroom, perfect for all kinds of little penguins!

On Tuesday the children used sponges to paint penguins, adding google eyes and paper beaks and feet. These are hanging in our classroom and all look so whimsical!

They also got to help "feed" penguins, counting out goldfish and placing them on penguin cards. The counting practice was good, but the best part was gobbling them up :).

We learned about Emperor Penguins and everyone took a turn trying to balance bean bag eggs on their feet while we sang a song. It's pretty hard to do!

We learned another song about penguins coming to tea, which involved a lot of tricky choreography. It's called Have You Ever Seen a Penguin Come to Tea? and your preschooler can probably teach it to you!

Other projects we did this week had to do with mittens. One was a painting activity, making pairs of mittens we will use in a game next week.

We played "Mitten Shake and Spill", dumping little plastic snowflakes over mitten cards and then counting how many fell onto the mitten and how many fell off of it.

We sang a song about different colored mittens and when the children heard words that rhymed with whatever colored mitten they were holding, they dropped them into the mitten basket.

The insta-snow in our tub was as soft and light as the real thing.

At the texture table, dump trucks and front loaders plowed through the rice.

We love the way the children continue to build relationships with each other and there is always a happy "buzz" about the room during our play time.

The playground was wet and rainy, but the only folks who seemed to mind were those of us over the age of 4 :).

Next week we'll finish up with our winter activities and move on to Valentine's Day and other February fun! Lots to look forward to!

We'll see you on Tuesday,
Lisa and Sheri
