Rescuing Spiders and Haunted Houses in the OC - Teacher Meghan

The kids have been busy this week! They built haunted houses out of wood, rescued spiders from oobleck and planted flower bulbs in our garden. Here is a peek at our week.

This week we started a multi - day haunted house project. On Monday and Wednesday the kids built their houses out of scraps of wood. On Friday they painted their houses and next week they will add spooky features.

In addition to the haunted houses we had a ton of other fun projects this week. The kids planted tulip and daffodil bulbs in the garden. We are so excited to see these pop up in the spring.

Using tweezers, the kids saved plastic spiders from a gooey substance called oobleck which is made from water and cornstarch. This was an awesome way to work on fine motor skills.

The kids learned some fun facts about spiders and got to hatch their own "baby spiders" from baking soda eggs by spraying them with vinegar.

We had several Halloween themed games out this week that the kids loved playing together.

The kids also loved rescuing bugs from spider webs at the light table and making witches brew at the water tub. There was a spooky haunted house on the building table and a monster story on the flannel board.

The kids made some amazing monsters at creation station this week.

There was some amazing collaboration happening on the carpet this week with the building blocks.

Mabel enjoyed snuggles all week.

We had some fun circle time activities this week. We read the book, Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley and acted out the story The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything by Linda Williams. We learned a Halloween Yoga sequence and practiced our awesome listening skills when friends shared their summer memories.

At recess we enjoyed playing in the sun and the rain this week!

The Halloween fun continues next week with pumpkins and ghosts!
Hugs,
Meghan and Christine
