Outstanding October! (OC) - Teacher Sheri

October is officially in full swing! We had so much fun with all the things this month brings, like spiders, pumpkins, eyeballs, skeletons, and more.

The kids noticed all the changes around the room when they arrived on Monday. The water tub was filled with eyeballs, cauldrons, and spaghetti noodles and it became an instant attraction. Some enjoyed the feeling of touching the noodles, but there were tongs for those that didn't. ;)

At the texture table, the children could fill plastic pumpkins and gather all the little items scattered throughout.

The light table featured two spider web baskets filled with creepy crawly bugs. The children used wooden pincers to try and get the bugs out.

On the flannel board, the kids threw velcro spiders at a spider web, so fun!

We made our dollhouse into a haunted house with lots of pumpkins and figures to play with.

The kids had fun stringing beads onto the legs of puffball and pipe cleaner spiders!

After the Ice Cream Social last week, we wanted to give kids the opportunity to paint their own faces. Some drew a little, while some colored a lot...some kept it on all day, and others wiped it right off. It was really interesting to watch them look at their reflection and try to place the crayon in the right place on their face.

At the other activity table, the kids placed their first items in their memory boxes. They put in a sunflower to remind then of September and a red puffball in honor of BJ the Clown. They decorated their sticker books and added a memory and stickers to it.

On Wednesday, we worked on fine motor skills and the kids wove yarn through holes in a paper plate, creating a spider web. They added a spider and now the webs are hanging in our window!

The kids also did some gardening and planted flower bulbs! They dug and planted and put their painted rocks to mark where they planted. We hope to have some beautiful daffodils, tulips, and hyacinth this spring.

Around the room, the children played with playdough, crafted at creation station, painted, and read.

At carpet time, we read a non-fiction book about spiders, sang spider songs, did Halloween patterning, sticks, and Halloween yoga!

Thank your for sharing your awesome children with us, we enjoy each day with them. Next week, we begin our haunted house building project - stay tuned!

Best,

Sheri and Lisa
