T'is the Season in the YC - Teachers Lisa and Jelena

T'is the season and around our classroom, the transition to winter holidays has begun!

At the texture table children experimented with magnetic wands  and a wide variety of objects (jingle bells, candy canes, colored rings, metal cookie cutters and more). There was some good predicting, observing and counting going on!

At the light table pom poms, ribbons and beads were stuffed into clear ornaments and then retrieved with tweezers.

There were lots of new holiday-themed supplies out at the creation station and play dough table.

The building table was set up like the North Pole - complete with artificial snow.

There were trees to decorate on the flannel board and lots of new holiday books to read.

Winter-themed finger puppets appeared at the puppet stage.

We had fun learning a new gingerbread man game on Tuesday. Children pulled a lever to release a shape and then looked to see if they had a space for it on their game board. If not, back into the candy machine it went!

Our classroom was filled with the scent of coffee on Thursday while we made "coffee bears". After painting their bear with a glue/water mixture, children sprinkled coffee all over it and then added googly eyes and a red bow. These adorable little creations are hanging out in our hallway.

To go along with our coffee bears, there were bears and boats to play with in the water tub. Children love to fill the huge jugs and then dump them out with a splash!

Red, green and white paints were out at the easels - perfect for color mixing!

Some friends tried making paper chains - this took some patience and perseverance!

Here are some of the other things that were happening around the room this week:

During our story time we read Dream Snow, Merry Christmas Big Hungry Bear, Ten Little Gingerbread Men, and The Gingerbread Man.  We did a freeze dance, an animal action song, pretended we were grizzly bears, and played different types of bell instruments.

Some friends were inspired by story time to go on a bear hunt  during recess.

There was also lots of chalk art on the play structure!

This is a magical time of year with little ones and we love it! We'll see you all on Tuesday for some more holiday fun :)

Warmly,
Lisa and Jelena
