Elephants, Tigers and Clowns - OH MY! More Circus Fun in Our YC

We spent a little more time at the circus this week and there were all kinds of animal friends who joined us!

Wild animals played in popcorn, hiding beneath plants and getting buried in kernels.

We read a book last week called, The Tiger Who Came to Tea about a tiger who visited a little girl and ate/drank everything in her house. We followed that up by having tigers, teacups and little Polly Pocket dolls in our water tub.

We also painted with tea bags. Some friends did this activity on the table, and others dropped their tea bags into a box for a more "splatty" experience.

At the building table there were lots of different circus-themed blocks and figures for stacking.

On Thursday we played "Elefun" and tried to catch butterflies that came fluttering out of the elephant's trunk.

Bright pieces of pipe cleaners at the light table were collected with lint rollers and then picked off for some fine-motor fun.

Many of the toys and activities we put out for the children have to do with helping them develop the fine motor strength that they will use as they learn to grasp a marker or pencil. The colored links and fishing game are two great examples.

Play dough is another great medium for developing finger strength.

It's fun to see some collaboration happening over on the rug and in the loft area. The children love the race cars and have also started incorporating the wooden blocks into their play.

We have several friends who are sure to spend a little time each school day loving on Ginger and Scarlet.

Here are some of the other things that were happening around the room during our free play time.

During our time together at the carpet we read stories about kindness and making friends. We danced to a silly song about goldfish, pretended we were jumping clowns and did some of our favorite finger plays - see if your preschooler can teach you "Two Little Blackbirds".

It was sooooo wet on Tuesday that we didn't get outside for very long. Thursday was much drier!

The elephants, tigers and clowns will be replaced with pumpkins, skeletons and spiders as we head into a few weeks of Halloween fun! This is always such a joyous time of year with little ones - we can't wait!

We'll see you Tuesday...
