Castles and Fairy Tales in the YC - Teacher Christine

We had a super fun week with your sweet kids as we continued our fairy tale theme. This week we started off with the story of Jack and the Beanstalk!

On Tuesday, the kids painted a beanstalk and used a leaf shaped sponge stamp to add leaves to their painting.

We took pictures of each child pretending to be a giant and then added them to the beanstalk painting. The finished pieces are hanging in the classroom. They are absolutely adorable.

Our second activity on Tuesday was a fun castle board game. This simple game was a great way for the kids to practice counting and turn taking with their friends. They did a great job!

On Thursday, they planted grass seeds in a small cup and we took a cute picture of each child pretending to be a troll and taped it to the cup. As the grass grows, they will look like they have troll hair! This activity was inspired by the book The Three Billygoats Gruff, which we read and acted out last week.

Also on Thursday, the kids played a super fun bean stalk  counting game out in the hallway. We had each group count out footprints up to 10 and put them in the correct order. Some of the kids walked the beanstalk, and other kids pretended to climb. It was fun to see how the kids collaborated to create their beanstalk path.

At our texture table we had a magical castle, with dragons and all sorts of fun characters. They all loved a tiny purple treasure box hidden in the castle.

We replaced the water in our water tub this week with soil, shovels, worms and bugs. The kids had a great time scooping, pouring, and hiding the bugs!

We had fun green play dough out this week along with foot and hand print cookie cutters.

This week, the kids discovered that we moved our writing station and have made it more accessible! Not only did they have fun with stamps, but Teacher Meghan also taught them a great way to get the tape out of the dispenser. This has opened up so much creativity and is also wonderful fine motor practice.

This group really loves games! They had a lot of fun re-enacting the story of The Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf with a matching game that we had out this week.

We had pigs, sheep, ducklings, and castles out at the creation station.

We had a cute little people zoo out this week at the building table.

These kids LOVE reading fairy tales in the book nook and acting them out at the flannel board, too!

Here is a glimpse of your children playing around the room. They especially loved the foam castle builders that we had out.

Circle time is always a blast! We taught the kids two new songs with the rhythm sticks this week.

The kids really enjoyed the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and a silly book called It's Raining, It's Pouring. We also read a book about a little pig who tricks the Big Bad Wolf and another silly book about a Big Bad Wolf who is actually quite nice and helpful!

We did unicorn yoga...

We had a lot of fun guessing where the golden egg was hidden in a beanstalk flannel hiding game. The kids did a great job being patient and taking turns.

The kids love to swing, slide, and play hide and seek at recess!

Next week we will have fun with colors and rainbows.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful kids with us!

See you on Tuesday!
Christine and Meghan
