Castles and Fairy Tales in the OC- Meghan

This week the fairy tale fun continued with exploring the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk .

The kids have been so excited to come to school and sign in using their new name cards. We are super proud of all of the effort they put into this new activity.

On Friday we started a two part castle project with the kids. First the kids built three dimensional castles using foam blocks. We then took the kids' pictures with their structures to use for the second part of the activity that we would complete on Monday.

On Friday the kids put new items in their memory boxes to commemorate the end of February.

On Monday the kids looked at the photos of their  3D foam castles and they tried to recreate these castles on paper using the same foam blocks and glittery paint.

On Monday the kids built structures and then got a chance to see if they were sturdy enough to stand up to the huffing and puffing of the big bad wolf, aka a hair dryer. The kids had a blast building and causing destruction as the wolf.

On Wednesday the kids drew castles in the clouds based on the story Jack and the Beanstalk. They used a sharpie to draw their castles and then used cotton balls to create clouds. We took photos of the kids pretending to be giants.

Our second activity on Wednesday was planting "magical" beans in hopes that we can grow beanstalks just like Jack.

We put all of these items together to create our awesome version of Jack and the Beanstalk starring the OC class as the big scary giants. Come and take a peek when you have a second!

On Friday we did magnet painting. We dipped round magnets in paint and then used magnetic wands to move the magnets around spreading the paint in cool and interesting patterns.

Our second activity was measuring a giant's foot with unifix cubes and then using these unifix cube sets to measure other items in the room and determine whether the items were shorter of longer than the giant's foot. We then graphed our results.

At our texture table this week we started with trolls in the table and then switched out toys and added a castle.

In the water tub we started the week with water, snakes and water beads and finished the week with dirt and bugs!

The light table was full of translucent fun!

At our building table this week we started with a castle and finished the week with a little people zoo!

Play dough was a fun way to play with friends this week.

Creation station provided a lot of opportunities for our budding artists to explore and create.

Friends were busy in cooperative play all over the classroom.

We loved going to library the past two Fridays with the amazing librarian, Casey!

The kids were introduced to a special friend from China named Panda. Two of our friends got the chance to take Panda home this week and we learned all about their adventures!

During circle time this week we learned a finger play about pigs,

Used the rhythm sticks for some fun new songs,

And played a fun number identification and hiding game.

At recess this week we enjoyed the sun and the snow!

We had a blast exploring fairy tales with the kids over the past two weeks. Next week we get in the holiday spirit and get in some mischief with leprechauns.
Hope everyone had an amazing weekend!
Meghan and Christine
