Here We Are Together! (YC) Teacher Sheri

Our first week with the whole class together was so much fun! We observed the kids feeling more comfortable exploring the room, trying different things, and meeting new friends.

The first day, the kids worked their hand muscles by spraying huge coffee filters with spray bottles filled with liquid watercolor. They watched the colors mix and absorb into the paper. The results are hanging up in the hallway.

At the other activity table, it was a color mixing extravaganza. The kids used pipettes to suck up watercolor and then squeeze it into ice cube trays. They could mix and squirt as much as they wanted until deciding on a color to put into a jar in the window!

The children did more filling and pouring at the texture table, along with putting sunflowers in vases.

The water tub was full of "polka dot soup!" The magnetic wands pick up the colored discs and balls, making it fun and a bit magical.

At the building table, the magna tiles were just waiting to be built into really tall towers or whatever they imagined.

We saw an assortment of things made with the translucent duplos at the light table.

Playdough is always out and is one of those mediums that children never tire of.

On Thursday, the most popular activity by far was coffee can rolling paintings! The kids worked in pairs and took turns putting paint covered marbles into a coffee can lined with paper. Then they sat on the floor and rolled the can back and forth until their beautiful art was revealed. They worked in teams and really shared well in this activity, so that was great to see.

We discovered a new use for lint rollers at the other activity table! The children were able to pick up pipe cleaner "worms" by pushing the sticky lint roller down or rolling it over them. They picked up as many as they could and then picked them off or counted/sorted them.

This class really enjoyed Creation Station this week. They are learning how they can go to the shelves to get bases, glue, tape, scissors, sequins, and more to create their own unique pieces.

The easels offer another outlet for creativity!

The guinea pigs, Ginger and Scarlet, continued to get a lot of attention from this sweet class.

Here are some more pictures of the kids engaged in play, games, puzzles, and more!

We were lucky to have some beautiful weather to play in!

At carpet time we continue to encourage sitting and listening, but this takes some getting used to in the Younger Class year!  Right now, we are keeping stories short and doing movement, songs, finger plays, and yoga breaths, which they love.

We look forward to seeing this class again and you may notice a festive circus theme as we prepare for our Ice Cream social the following week. Take care and see you soon!

Warmly,

Sheri and Lisa
