Color exploration in the YC - Teacher Meghan

We had such a fun week with your little ones. It was exciting to have the whole class together for the first time. The kids are continuing to learn the school routine and have loved to explore the classroom.

One of the highlights for many of the kids this week was the discovery that Baby Mabel, our guinea pig,  loves to be held. Mabel received lots of snuggles and pats this week.

At our texture table we had vases and sunflowers. The kids loved digging, scooping and filling.

The water tub was filled with boats and bears this week. The kids took our colorful bears on many aquatic adventures on Tuesday and Thursday.

At our play dough table we had awesome green play dough. We also had leaves, sunflower seeds, green chenille stems and giant yellow buttons to help spark creativity.

Giant flowers served as a base option this week at Creation Station. Friends got busy cutting, gluing and bedazzling their creations.

At our building table we had magnetic balls and rods for the kids to explore.

Translucent wedgits were a popular building tool at the light table.

Wind up toys, puzzles and alpha bots were available for friends in our fine motor areas.

On our carpet and loft areas friends snuggled with stuffies, built with duplos and dressed up!

Many of our parent led activities this week focused on color exploration. On Tuesday friends sprayed giant coffee filters with red, yellow and blue liquid water color. They then watched as colors mixed and absorbed. These amazing creations became flowers for our bulletin board in the hallway.

Our second parent led activity on Tuesday was playing a board game called "Curious George's Color Matching Game". In this game the kids worked on matching different colored balloons on their game board based on the color they rolled on their dice.

On Thursday we had a color mixing laboratory. Using pipettes the kids mixed red, yellow and blue liquid water color in ice cube trays to create an amazing rainbow. After the kids were done mixing and squirting we put their final product in glass baby food jars next to a window. The results are beautiful! Come take a peek when you have a chance.

Our second activity on Thursday was a collaborative marble painting. The kids filled a coffee can with paper and marbles dipped in paint. The lid was put on the coffee can and the kids rolled the can back and forth to each other. These paintings became the stems and leaves for our coffee filter flowers. Both are on display in our hallway.

During circle time this week we learned two songs about sunflowers, went on a Bear Hunt with Teacher Christine, danced our hearts out, played instruments and did our favorite finger play about two little black birds.

We loved our sunny recess this week!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us! We can't wait to see everyone on Tuesday.
