Welcome to the Older Class, Small Friends!

What a wonderful first week of school we had! It was so fun to watch the children explore the classroom and to get to know their new friends and teachers. We had a great week exploring all of the fun stations in the classroom, making art, reading stories, and just having a super time being back in school together. :)

Each day we have a special art or science activity. On Monday, we worked with our new friends to make a painting using golf balls!

On Wednesday, we decorated memory boxes! These boxes will stay at school for the year and each month the kids will get to place a memento in the box to remember all of the fun things we do each month.

On Friday, we went out to our garden area for a nature scavenger hunt! The kids had fun looking for leaves, flowers, tree bark, birds, and lots more.

The kids were busy little bees this week and had fun exploring all of the different stations around the room.

Our texture table is filled with flax seeds, windmills, scoops and buckets. This station is a great place to have some quiet time or to have fun with friends!

Over at the playdough table, we had bright yellow playdough and lots of fun tools to work with! The kids made quite a few birthday cakes for friends and teachers this week. :)

Baby Mabel is back at school and ready for snuggles!

We have a new puppet theater in the classroom and had a great time peeking through the curtains and playing with the silly puppets.

The kids loved to read books together in our cozy book nook!

Our friends also had a blast making art at the creation and writing stations! The stickers were very popular this week. :)

The kids got creative with the translucent Duplos on the light table. They made lots of cool creations and worked on their awesome collaboration and sharing skills.

We made "polka dot soup" this week in the water tub!

We have a table dedicated to puzzles and games and the kids enjoyed going "fishing" and racing snails together!

Playtime on the carpet is the best! There are so many fun toys to explore and opportunities for creativity, collaboration, sharing, and parallel play are abundant.

At circle time we read a book called When This Box is Full about keeping special mementos to remember special things we do throughout the year. This was in preparation for making our very own memory boxes to fill with treasures each month from school! We also enjoyed a couple of Pete the Cat books and a silly book about a slug who wants to be a snail. :)

We did "zoo" yoga, danced to the freeze song, and played a cute name game called "Hickity Pickety Bumblebee". We had lots of fun together at circle time this week!

Recess is always a blast! The weather was perfect for us this week and we enjoyed every minute of it.

Next week we will have fun with sunflowers! We loved spending time with your wonderful children this week. They sure are amazing!

Warmly,
Christine and Meghan
