Our Second Week Together in the YC - Teacher Lisa

Wow - even though it was only our second week together (and only 4 days of preschool) these little kiddos have really settled in! This week we continued to focus on "getting to know the room" during our free play time.

Our carpet area, which is primarily for dramatic play and playing with some of our larger toys, is a place where many friends like to begin their school day.

Once they've spent some time at the rug, everyone spreads out a little more and explores the other areas of the room. This week there were magnet wands with magnetic balls and discs in the water tub. We like to pretend this is our polka dot soup.

At the light table there were translucent Duplos.

There was lovely yellow play dough with yellow gems, green leaves, and green pipe cleaners (inspired by sunflowers). It was fun to see all of the wonderful creations!

There was also a HUGE sunflower head with lots of seeds for the children to pull out using their fingers or a pair of tweezers - excellent fine motor practice.

There are shelves near one of our tables with puzzles and games that the children can choose to play. This week Snail Race was out, as were some shape sorting games.

At the other end of our play dough table, children engage in our Creation Station where they can glue, paint, glue, cut, glue and then glue a little more:).

The easels allow for some larger painting experiences. There are lots of different approaches to using this area of the classroom. Some friends like to paint a little and others fill the whole page. Some like to keep colors separate and others love to see what happens when they mix colors together. No matter what their preference, it's fun to paint with your friends!

Scarlet and Ginger welcome all of the yummy snacks they receive - and the children love to feed them.

On the shelves under our guinea pigs there are more toys that the children can choose during their free play time. Some of the things they are especially enjoying in this area are the Alphabots, the Woodkins and the Let's Go Fishing game.

We are so impressed with the way everyone helps clean up at the end of our play time! Once the toys are put away, we head over to the rug for some songs and stories. Ask your child to tell you about Little Mousy Brown or Icky Sticky Bubble Gum!

We had another perfect week of weather for our time outside!

When you arrive on Tuesday, you'll see that we're starting a circus theme! We'll see you under the big top :)

Until next time,

Lisa and Jelena
